GMP licenses to be given at first to large pharmaceutical companies
In 2013 Armenia introduced Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), with Likvor, Arpimed, and Pharmatec pharmaceutical companies being in the process of obtaining GMP licenses. Chairman of the Union of Medicine Producers and Importers of Armenia Samvel Zakarian provided details of that process.
According to him, any pharmaceutical company in Armenia can apply for a GMP license and get it according to the schedule, but prior to that, it has to improve production and modernize its equipment. GMP licensed manufacturers may export their products.
Director of Likvor Company Sergei Matevosian said that assistance is provided to medicine producers in holding seminars and exhibitions and receiving loans from universal credit institutions. It is still early to say how tangible and efficient the assistance is. Large pharmaceutical companies have been so far included in the list of GMP license granting.
S. Zakarian said that although GMP was introduced in the country in 2013, some pharmaceutical companies – there are 17 such companies in Armenia - still operate illegally.
