Police detain two men demanding bribe in return for amnesty
A citizen convicted under Article 178 part 2 of the Criminal Code applied to the Main Department for Fight against Organized Crime of the Armenian Police. He said that Alexander Khachatrian, main specialist of Armavir regional unit of alternative punishment use of the Justice Ministry’s Criminal Executive Department, and the head of the same unit, Lieutenant Colonel Sahak Harutyunian demanded a bribe of 400,000 drams from him in return for granting an amnesty to him, according to the press service of the Armenian police.
As a result, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Khachatrian was detained while accepting a bribe of 400,000 AMD in his office on the first floor of the Armavir regional court of general jurisdiction in the city of Vagharshapat.
Alexander Khachatrian and Sahak Harutyunian were taken to the Main Department for Fight against Organized Crime.
Materials about the crime were sent to Special Investigation Service that opened a criminal case under the RA Criminal Code’s Article 311 part 3 points 1 and 2. Both men were arrested. An investigation is underway.
