Prosecutor general meets CE human rights commissioner
Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanian received on October 21 a delegation led by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks, the press service of Prosecutor General’s Office said.
Welcoming the guests, G. Kostanian stated that he as Armenian prosecutor general and representative of the Armenian government to the European Court of Human Rights attaches importance to cooperation with the CE commissioner for human rights. He expressed willingness to continue cooperation based on a solid and multilateral basis. G. Kostanian briefly informed the delegation members about the Armenian authorities’ steps aimed at guaranteeing human rights and fundamental freedoms.
N. Muiznieks congratulated Gevorg Kostanian on his appointment as prosecutor general, noting he is well informed about Mr. Kostanian’s activities and is confident that they will efficiently cooperate with the Office of Armenian Prosecutor General.
The delegation members asked a number of questions related to the protection of rights of servicemen in the armed forces, alternative service problems, and the authority and functions of the prosecutor’s office at the stage of court and legal reforms.
Gevorg Kostanian answered their questions in detail. He proposed establishing direct contacts between the Office of CE Commissioner for Human Rights and the Office of RA Prosecutor General to ensure a rapid exchange of information.
