Bostanjian: Unemployment benefit abolishment wrong decision
“The decision to abolish unemployment benefits was incorrect,” former deputy of the Armenian parliament Vardan Bostanjian said at a meeting with reporters today. According to him, 35% of the country’s population is considered poor. “They should have been provided with jobs at first and only then deprived of their benefits,” he noted.
Deputy of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) faction Manvel Badeyan said for his part that the money saved through abolishment of unemployment benefits will be allocated to job creation. He expressed an opinion there are categories of people who are content with meager benefits and prefer to do nothing. “Society is not obliged to keep idlers,” Badeyan said.
