Numerous monuments discovered due to 2-year program
Numerous new monuments have been discovered as a result of a program implemented in Armenia in the last two years, the expert on monuments Samvel Karapetian said at a meeting with reporters today, adding that in Jiliza village of Tavush province alone, nine monuments were discovered. “You can find information about one of those monuments, nothing is known about the rest,” he noted.
“Many of the monuments are in hard-to-reach areas: one can get there on foot, motorways are absent. So we continue to be unaware of our cultural heritage”, Karapetian said. In his words, most monuments are located in dense forests and became damaged over time.
The program was implemented in cooperation with the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Monuments.
