Shant Harutyunian held in detention center
Shant Harutyunian is held in a detention center, the Yerevan Police Chief Ashot Karapetian told Aysor.am.
In his words, 20 people have been arrested. He refused to provide more information, based on the necessity to observe the secrecy of investigation.
Shant Harutyunian earlier announced his intention to carry out a revolution in the country, after which the Anonymous march’s participants supporting the activist began to explode Molotov cocktails on Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan. Clashes broke out, as a result of which nine people were hospitalized. Eight of those injured are policemen, and a 16-year-old teen received a craniocerebral injury.
“The police called on Shant Harutyunian and his supporters to refrain from illegal actions, but they did not obey the lawful orders. Armed with clubs and metal rods, they tried to block the carriageway of Mashtots Avenue. They also began exploding homemade explosive devices,” the police press service said.
