Bombings in Baghdad kill dozens
At least 47 people were killed and 132 others injured in Baghdad on Wednesday in a wave of bombings striking mostly Shiite areas across the Iraqi capital, police told CNN.
Seven car bombs and two roadside bombs were detonated. The deadliest blast was in Al-Sadriya, in central Baghdad, when a car bomb exploded at an outdoor market, killing seven people and wounding 21 others, police said.
Other bombings occurred near a Shiite mosque and inside a bus station.
Sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shiites and political unrest have festered in recent months. In September alone, nearly 1,000 people were killed in violence across Iraq, according to the United Nations.
