Ombudsman’s advisor visits Shant Harutyunian
The Armenian ombudsman’s advisor visited today Shant Harutyunian who is kept in Yerevan-Kentron penal institution and has not yet been transferred to a mental hospital, according to the Human Rights Defender Office.
During the conversation Shant Harutyunian was calm. He didn’t express any complaints about the present situation, but he expressed concern about possible provocations against him in the mental hospital and also stressed the need to ensure his safety given the fact that he was previously an employee of law enforcement bodies. Shant Harutyunian asked the ombudsman’s advisor to regularly visit him starting from the first day of his transfer to a mental hospital so as to keep possible disputable issues at the center of attention.
On the ombudsman’s instructions, an official letter with a petition to ensure Shant Harutyunian’s safety has already been prepared.
The ombudsman will show consistency in ensuring Shant Harutyunian’s safety in a mental clinic and his representatives will regularly visit S. Harutyunian.
