Adibekian on accumulative system: Nothing ventured, nothing gained
About 25 years ago there were 80 thousand births in Armenia each year, whereas the current annual number is 40 thousand, the director of Sociometer center Aharon Adibekian said at a meeting with journalists today, when presenting statistical data and commenting on the accumulative pension system.
According to him, unless the accumulative pension problem is solved now, it is likely that the current youths will not have an opportunity to get pensions in the future – “today we can hardly receive pensions”.
The sociologist reminded those present that all countries introduce an accumulative pension system. He did not rule out, however, that a rapid switch to the accumulative pension system is like shock therapy.
Aharon Adibekian expressed concern about the new pension system, especially in connection with indexation, but added that “nothing ventured, nothing gained”.
