Hraparak: Prices surge ahead of New Year
Stores in all countries are currently offering discounts, while in Armenia the situation is diametrically opposite: with the approach of the New Year, food prices have become astronomical, ‘Hraparak’ paper writes.
According to the daily, for this reason many prefer doing their New Year shopping in early December. Everyone wants to have a table laden with food, which sometimes makes ordinary Armenians spend 2-3 months’ salary.
“For truth’s sake, we should note that some shops reduced prices of some foods such as rice, vegetable oil, and flour. But the Armenians like to serve meat-stuffed pancakes, dolma, various salads, candied fruits, and sweets whose prices have risen as compared with last year,” the paper notes.
