Haykakan Zhamanak: Food prices rise in Armenia
According to a National Statistical Service report released yesterday, prices rose by 6.6% in Armenia in November as compared with November of last year. Food prices rose by 54%.
“At first glance this information is not extraordinary especially as even higher growth of 71% and 82% was recorded by the Statistical Service in the past months. The point is not that prices have fallen, as the report says, although in reality prices continue to rise. The main problem is that food prices rise in Armenia, whereas global food prices decline.
According to the World Bank data, global food prices fell by 12% in October compared with October of last year. Armenia adheres to oligarchy and monopoly principles, rather than the principle of a free market economy,” ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily says.
