Law on Single Investigation Committee may take effect in January
A package of bills on amendments to new laws – the Law on Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia and the Law on Investigation Department as well as amendments to over 15 existing laws is already ready and will be submitted to the government for discussion, later to the National Assembly. If adopted, the law will take effect on January 10, 2014.
By a September 24 order of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, a commission was set up to develop the legislative field required for activities of the Single Investigation Body. The commission is headed by former Prosecutor General of Armenia Aghvan Hovsepian.
Aghvan Hovsepian said during a roundtable today that the package of bills was submitted to the Office of the Armenian President and Justice Ministry to get the go-ahead.
First Deputy Justice Minister Grigor Muradian said for his part that in particular, the draft law on Investigation Committee of Armenia is at the final stage of its improvement. In his words, “in its quality this law will differ from many laws currently applied in Armenia”.
