Android-based tablets and phones to be made in Armenia
Armenia will start manufacturing Android-based tablets and mobile phones, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Friday at a sitting of Armenia’s Industrial Council. According to him, an Armenian-US joint venture, Technology and Science Dynamics Inc. /Armtab Technologies, has launched the production of Armenian tablets – Armtabs as well as Armphones.
The company director Vahan Shakarian said the tablet’s trials versions with a 7.85-, 9-, 9.7- and 10.1-inch displays have already been assembled.
“Armenian tablets are not inferior to popular ones in the international market, while their prices will be considerably lower,” Shakarian stressed. In his words, the hardware and software are made in Armenia, but the products are assembled in the U.S. and Honk Kong.
It is planned to start the mass production and sale of Armtabs in January-February 2014.
The first tablet was given to the prime minister as a gift.
