Serzh Sargsyan presents his position on pension reform
During the working consultation at Economy Ministry today, President Serzh Sargsyan answered questions of ministry employees. He spoke about the process of pension reforms and expressed his opinion.
“I have personally dealt with that problem for a long time and held several consultations, including consultations with representatives of the political forces represented in the parliament - with the participation of heads of at least four factions, parties. Our aim was to try to understand all problems that might arise – from political to economic and financial,” he said.
According to the president, a draft law was then prepared and submitted to the National Assembly.
“Every day I hear various opinions about that and these opinions can be easily divided into political and professional points of view. There is both superficiality and quite a deep approach in both political and professional opinions. I would like all those who consider the reform useful to be more active. After all, what do we want? Do we want the situation concerning the welfare of elderly people to be as bad as it is today? To tell the truth, in many cases I feel ill at ease and I even believe that it is time to apologize to these people.
We must solve this problem so that future state officials would not apologize. I am saying this to all those state officials who could have solved the problem years ago. Now we would not have to offer an apology.
Fairy tales were invented – the system that has existed for decades thanks to people’s solidarity is allegedly being broken. Who said that it is broken? The system remains, but we want another one to be added. I positively assess this. And all those with a positive approach should be more active,” the president said
