Azerbaijanis force POWs to refuse to return to Armenia
Armenian soldier Hakob Injighulian has been held captive in Azerbaijan for four months. It is still not clear why he declared that he does not want to return to Armenia.
In order to understand how Azerbaijanis force Armenian prisoners of war to choose to move to a third country instead of returning to the homeland, the correspondent of ‘Zhoghovurd’ paper talked to former POW Yeghia Hunanian who together with two other soldiers was held in Azerbaijani captivity for two months and 20 days.
In his words, Azerbaijani generals tried to find out how many soldiers, arms and tanks we have. “When they realized we were deceiving them, they would beat us up,” Hunanian said.
He told the paper that Azerbaijanis forced them to refuse to return to Armenia. “You must stay in Azerbaijan or choose a third country, but not Russia,” Azerbaijanis said.
