Hovhannes Tamamian to be freed
Former head of the Main Criminal Investigation Department of the Armenian Police Hovhannes Tamamian will be released from prison, his lawyer Artavazd Parsadanian told the correspondent of Aysor.am. The decision about his release was made a bit earlier, while the release process may take a few hours. Tamamian will be freed this evening or tomorrow morning.
The lawyer said that he recently filed a petition for Tamamian’s early release.
By Article 8 clause 3 of the National Assembly’s decision on a general amnesty on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Armenia’s independence, H. Tamamian had his prison term reduced by a fourth.
He was charged under Article 308 parts 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code. Head of the Main Criminal Investigation Department Major General H. Tamamian was charged with abuse of his position to the detriment of his official duties and improper performance of duty. He was sentenced to 4-year imprisonment and began to serve his prison term on March 24, 2012.
