Fish breeding on brink of collapse in Armenia
Chairman of the Union of Armenian Fish Farmers and Exporters Arthur Atoyan expressed concern about the situation in fish breeding sector at a press conference today.
“The banks have stopped providing loans to fish breeding businesses, considering the sector as high-risk,” he said.
In the opinion of A. Atoyan, the government takes actions in the sector without the knowledge of business entities. “Decisions and actions related to us are taken secretly from us,” the union chairman noted.
Atoyan expressed his perplexity over the fact that the sector has suddenly become a ‘risky’ one. In his words, the country may lose 80% of fish farms and an army of unemployed may appear. “We may lose 80% of fish farms and reach a deadlock. Fish breeding is on the brink of collapse in Armenia,” Atoyan stressed.
He proposed to discuss and solve the fish breeding sector’s problems together with its representatives and involve them in the measures aimed at improving the situation.
