Whirlwinds and snowstorms claim 7 lives in US
The number of victims of tornadoes and snowstorms in the states of Kentucky, Mississippi and Missouri has reached 7, local authorities reported on Sunday, according to the Voice of Russia.
In several states, the number of road accidents has grown considerably due to heavy snowfall and ice crust. Near the city of New Hope, Kentucky a car with five people fell into a river. Three people died, two managed to get out of the cold water. They are in hospital now. One man died near the city of Carrollton in the same state. His four-wheeler fell into a river.
In the state of Missouri, one life was claimed by a car accident caused by snowstorm and slippery road.
According to rescue services, two people became tornado victims in Mississippi where strong gusts of wind turned trucks upside down.
In the states of New York, Vermont and Maine a total of about 100 houses remained without electricity due to line breaks caused by ice coating.
