Open sky policy contributes to decline in air ticket prices
At the session today, the Armenian government approved the program on tourism support services for 2014 that envisages a 10% growth in the number of tourists visiting Armenia.
Economy Minister Vahram Avanesian said that 12.5% growth was recorded in tourism this year, while the number of hotel rooms increased by 750. The minister underlined the need to create a favorable atmosphere for tourism development, which will promote activities of air carriers.
“The open sky policy implemented by the government will enable to control the growth of prices and even reduce them,” the minister said.
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said for his part that the year 2014 will be marked by serious changes in the country. “New airlines will enter the market and a fall in prices is expected. A number of large airlines will start operating flights, which will contribute to the development of tourism,” he noted.
The program is in line with the goals of the state policy concept and is aimed at diversification of tourism products, development of tourism in communities, extension of the tourist season, and raising the competitiveness of Armenian tourism in international market.
