Prime minister: We had no experience in express highway construction
“The construction of the North-South Highway began behind schedule for several reasons,” Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan told a press conference today.
According to him, the construction began in 2013 and large-scale work will be done in 2014.
“We are building a modern road, with an expected speed of 120 km/h, which means that its quality is of importance. Construction work has taken longer than planned because we give priority to quality,” T. Sargsyan noted.
In his words, Armenia had no experience in construction of motorways of such quality, even in the Soviet time, and this is one of the reasons.
“We needed knowledge and experience, while as a result of cooperation with the Asian Bank it became clear that we lacked experience. We had difficulty choosing the organization. A Spanish construction company eventually won,” the prime minister said.
