Prosecutor general on Shant Harutyunian case
When speaking about the Shant Harutyunian case, Armenia’s Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanian said that any person can be held accountable if the court considers his/her guilt as proven.
Asked if it is legal not to allow Shant Harutyunian to see his relatives, Kostanian replied: “An investigation is being conducted into Shant Harutyunian’s case and if someone believes that the decision of the investigator or the prosecutor is illegal, they can appeal against the decision”.
On November 5, 2013, the leader of Tseghakron Party Shant Harutyunian and his supporters, armed with clubs and rods, decided to stage an unauthorized march. Policemen urged them not to disturb public order and stop blocking Mashtots Avenue in downtown Yerevan. Yet the protesters began exploding homemade incendiary devices.
Shant Harutyunian has been on hunger strike since December 24.
