Haykakan Zhamanak: Alvina Gyulumian returns to Armenia
‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily says that according to a reliable source, Alvina Gyulumian, the Armenian judge in the European Court of Human Rights, will soon resign and on her return to Armenia, she will be appointed member of the Constitutional Court.
Alvina Gyulumian’s term in ECHR expires in January 2015, but she plans to leave her position ahead of time as there will be two vacancies for a judge in Armenia’s Constitutional Court. Two members of the Constitutional Court will retire: ex-Minister of Education and Science (1991-1992) Valery Poghosian who will turn 70 in March 2014, and ex-Minister-Head of the Government Staff Manuk Topuzian.
It is still unclear who will replace A. Gyulumian in Strasbourg. David Harutyunian is said to be a likely candidate.
