Justice minister on Shant Harutyunian case
Participants of the march in support of Tseghakron Party leader Shant Harutyunian met today with Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasian outside the Armenian government.
As regards the issue of changing the measure of restraint against Shant Harutyunian, H. Tovmasian said the decision was made by the investigative body and the next step is the court.
“Justice Ministry has no such powers and may not interfere in this process. On my instructions, Shant Harutyunian was transferred to Convicts’ Hospital penal institution. For me, Harutyunian is a convict who has health problems. I am responsible for his health and will do everything so that nothing will endanger his health,” the minister said.
Let us remind you that Shant Harutyunian ended his hunger strike today. According to Criminal Executive Department of Justice Ministry, Harutyunian is under the supervision of doctors who assess his condition as normal.
Harutyunian went on hunger strike on December 24. He was charged under Article 316 part 2 of the Criminal Code – use of violence against a representative of the authorities.
