Killed soldier’s father attempts suicide in court

Ishkhan Stepanian, the father of soldier Lyuks Stepanian killed in the Noyemberian military unit last year, attempted to commit suicide in the courtroom today by jumping out of a window. He told the correspondent of Aysor.am that he wanted to kill himself out of despair.

“No one attended the court sitting. The judge said the lawyers’ car was involved in an accident and they went back to Yerevan. Vladimir Gasparian and Seyran Ohanian promised that justice will be done, but they didn’t attend the first sitting,” the man said. In his words, this fact caused strong discontent among his family member and relatives who gathered in the courtroom and outside it.

The Tavush regional court of general jurisdiction is due to examine soldier Lyuks Stepanian’s murder case today.

David Khachatrian has been charged under Article 104 part 2 point 6 and Article 112 part 1 of the Criminal Code. On May 15, 2013, David Khachatrian, a serviceman of military unit 27229 of Armenian Defense Ministry, was on duty at the entrance of a sentry post. In response to offensive remarks and abuses of conscript Lyuks Stepanian who along with three other servicemen was taking a rest in a nearby bower, D. Khachatrian fired from his AKM rifle. Lyuks Stepanian died instantly from a gunshot wound to the head. Another conscript, Hrachia Sargsyan, received a serious gunshot wound to the head. Grave damage has been done to his health.
