Zhamanak: Salaries of lecturers same despite tuition fee rise
The sharp rise in tuition fees at Yerevan State University (YSU) and some other educational institutions in September of last year was explained by executives of these institutions by the need to raise salaries of lecturers and improve their working conditions.
Six months have passed, but salaries of lecturers remain the same. Some of the teaching staff members as well as heads of sub-departments complain that the tuition fee increase did not serve its purpose - their salaries have not been raised.
However, YSU pro-rector Ruben Markosian told ‘Zhamanak’ paper that salaries of the faculty have increased: besides their salaries, faculty members receive additional payments ranging from 10 to 50 drams. These payments made 10-30 drams previously.
