Armen Ashotian proposes renaming Republic of Armenia
Armenian Minister of Education and Science, deputy chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotian proposes renaming the Republic of Armenia to the Republic of Eastern Armenia.
“I propose discussing the issue of renaming our state in terms of restoring historical justice and lawful demands. I think the Republic of Eastern Armenia would be a more correct name for the state built in this part of the Armenian Highlands,” Armen Ashotian wrote on Facebook.
According to Ashotian, he made that proposal as long ago as 2005, during discussions of the package of constitutional reforms. Besides, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is approaching.
“The public discussions on constitutional reforms are focused on political transformation and changes in the government system. Yet, in my opinion, constitutional reforms open up impressive and interesting opportunities in the foreign-policy filed,” the minister wrote.
