Egg shortage not reported in Armenian market
In November and December of last year, 900,000 eggs were produced, 800,000 were consumed daily in the country, the head of Armenian Agriculture Ministry’s Animal Breeding and Veterinary Medicine Department Ashot Hovhannisian told reporters today.
In his words, in mid December demand for eggs had increased, with the daily sales reaching 1.5-2 million eggs, but that demand was met thanks to imports and domestic production of eggs.
There were only problems on December 29-30: because of the extremely cold weather truck could not deliver products to stores, but the problem was solved in a matter of hours, Ashot Hovhannisian said.
As for the concerns that there will be a shortage of eggs soon, the department head said that the poultry factories have been supplied with the necessary number of laying hens so egg production currently exceeds demand.
