Zhoghovurd: 30% of fish farms stop operating
The increase in electricity prices has had a negative impact on Armenian fish farming, ‘Zhoghovurd’ paper says. Due to decreased volumes of grounwater, fish breeders in many communities of Ararat and Armavir provinces have to use more electricity for pumps supplying water to fish reservoirs. As a result, 30% of fish farms have recently stopped operating.
“Fish farms are on the brink of bankruptcy as they got large loans and then found themselves in a difficult situation,” Chairman of the Union of Fish Breeders Armen Buniatian told the newspaper. He said the increase in the electricity price has also affected fish prices which will go up by 100-200 drams soon.
