Commission for checking calorific value of gas to be set up
A commission to check the calorific value of natural gas will be set up. Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission Robert Nazarian made that proposal at the Armenian government’s session today.
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said that the calorific value of gas has recently caused concern among the public, and despite numerous explanations, doubts are still being expressed that the calorific value of gas is not up to the standard or the quality of gas has changed. The prime minister stressed that the public wants an exhaustive explanation.
According to Robert Nazarian, expert conclusions will be presented in a clear, comprehensible way because both natural and juridical persons complain about the calorific power of supplied gas, although it is measured at the border and by big gas consumers such as Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant, Ararat Cement Plant and others.
He added that in May of last year the problem was discussed with businessmen who proposed purchasing a mobile laboratory, which has not been done until now.
“The mobile lab costs $25-30 thousand, it is not expensive,” Deputy Minister of Economy Levon Shahverdian noted.
It was mentioned that farmers also complain about the low calorific value of gas. In their words, their expenses on green houses have doubled compared with last year.
A decision was made to set up the gas calorific value commission at Ministry of Economy and include representatives of various ministries, NGOs, and National Academy of Sciences in that commission.
