Shaboyan: Our commission will try to tighten control this year
This year the priorities of Armenia’s State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) will include revealing of companies with a dominant position in their markets as well as anti-competitive agreements, and also tightening control over concentration, SCPEC Chairman Artak Shaboyan said during a discussion held today at the UN Office in Armenia.
Shaboyan noted that the commission will try to reduce concentration in some commodity markets, adding that there are objective reasons for a high degree of concentration in Armenia.
“Our country is small, with limited markets and closed borders, which makes business costly for entities engaging in foreign trade so large companies are at an advantage,” Shaboyan said.
He stressed at the same time that large companies should not abuse their position, which hurts consumer interests, and SCPEC takes measures to prevent such cases.
