Sergei Minasian: Authorities don’t believe in their own powers
Armenian citizens’ discontent with the introduction of the compulsory accumulative pension system may be politicized, political scientist Sergei Minasian said.
“Civil society is acting more actively and efficiently than the parties that will attempt to control the process,” Sergei Minasian told the correspondent of Aysor.am.
“I can’t say how efficient the pension reform is, but it is definitely necessary. In any country, reforms are introduced by the authorities, rather than are implemented voluntarily,” Minasian stressed.
He at the same time shared the opinion that society’s discontent has to do with its mistrust of the authorities and society sees threats in each initiative put forward by the government.
“The matter concerns not only society’s mistrust of the authorities. The authorities themselves lack a confidence in their own powers - whether they will be able to bring the process to a logical conclusion, regardless of public discontent. The authorities simply don’t believe in their own powers,” Minasian noted.
