Khojoyan was tortured, News.am reports

Mamikon Khojoyan was tortured during his captivity, Ijevan Medical Center’s orthopedist and traumatic surgeon Emil Brutian told News.am when commenting on the condition of Armenian citizen Mamikon Khojoyan, 77, who was freed by Azerbaijan yesterday after being held captive for over a month. According to the doctor, Khojoyan suffered injuries about a month ago.

Khojoyan has bone fractures and a gunshot wound. Surgery was done to conceal his gunshot wound, the doctor said. There are also scratches on his head and bruises on his left thigh and other parts of his body caused by blows. His auricles are injured as a result of tortures, the doctor said, adding that Khojoyan did not have those injuries before he was taken captive.

He has a broken arm and needs surgery. M. Khoyoan is now in the intensive care unit under doctors’ supervision.

The only person the old man has recognized is his daughter, Heghine Vardazarian. She told the correspondent of News.am that her father is frightened.

“Father says they scattered salt on the ground, made him lie down on it and beat him. Father is in a terrible state now. He cannot walk,” H. Vardazarian said.

The doctor did not rule out that some drugs were injected into Mamikon Khojoyan. Tests will be done with this aim.
