Openings set to start in trial of bin Laden kin
Opening statements are expected to start in the New York trial of Osama bin Laden's son-in-law on charges he conspired to kill Americans after the Sept. 11 attacks.
The openings are likely to start mid-morning Wednesday after the jury is selected for the trial of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith (SOO'-lay-mahn AH'-boo GAYTH). Abu Ghaith was brought to the United States last year after the onetime imam at a Kuwaiti mosque was captured in Turkey.
Prosecutors say he used his role as al-Qaida's spokesman after the 2001 attacks to announce in videos with bin Laden that more attacks on the United States would be as devastating as those that downed the World Trade Center. He has pleaded not guilty.
The Kuwaiti-born Abu Ghaith is married to bin Laden's eldest daughter, Fatima.
