NA speaker on Kesab events: We are not competent to interfere
At the parliamentary sitting today the deputy of Heritage parliamentary faction Tevan Poghosian spoke about the recent events in the Syrian town of Kesab populated predominantly by Armenians. Large-scale attacks have been launched on Kesab from Turkey and hundreds of Armenians had to leave Kesab temporarily. They were evacuated to Latakia.
“One can say that we are losing one of the ancient Armenian communities in the Middle East. They have left their homeland for a second time in the last 100 years. What actions can be taken? Will any steps be taken? Out compatriots are in a very difficult situation,” Tevan Poghosian said.
The parliamentary speaker Hovik Abrahamian said for his part that any action plan is out of the question.
“It would be correct to invite the foreign minister or a ministry official to the parliament so that they could present the actions being taken. We are not competent to interfere in the internal affairs of that country,” Hovik Abrahamian said.
