Constitutional Court holds hearing on accumulative pensions
The Constitutional Court of Armenia has continued today the hearings on the Law on Accumulative Pensions. The sides will present their closing arguments about the constitutionality of several provisions of the law.
Lawyer Mary Khachatrian said in her speech that the provision on the introduction of compulsory pension contributions in Armenia has signs of age discrimination as well as cases of violation of the right of ownership.
“At the last sitting the defendant failed to answer the question about the principle used to decide that the law applies to citizens born after 1974. No answers were also given to the questions that the court and we asked,” she noted.
The lawyer also discussed some property-related issues. The chairman of the Constitutional Court interrupted her, asking her not to repeat the remarks made during the previous sitting. Mary Khachatrian ended her speech, followed by a speech of parliamentary deputy, ARF-Dashnaktsutyun Party representative Artsvik Minasian.
We would remind you that employees of the government and the Central Bank of Armenia will make speeches as representatives of the defendant at the Constitutional Court’s sitting today.
