168 Hours: Hovik Abrahamian issue removed from political agenda
According to sources of ‘168 Hours’ paper, the appointment of parliamentary speaker Hovik Abrahamian as prime minister of Armenia has been removed from the political agenda. Among the reasons is the circumstance that President Serzh Sargsyan failed to reach an agreement with Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) over the formation of the future government.
“The same sources say that a person, who is not a member of Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) and whose candidacy has been considered as least likely and was not discussed frequently, will be appointed prime minister. We failed to find out who that person is. It should be mentioned that BHK and Armenian National Congress (HAK) factions of the parliament were happy to learn this news. HAK and BHK were concerned that in case of Hovik Abrahamian’s appointment as prime minister, they would feel constrained to criticize the government which would affect their image as opposition. In any other case, such a problem will not arise,” the paper writes.
