Haykakan Zhamanak: Negotiations on customs duties not successful
‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily writes that Armenia’s negotiations with respective bodies of the Customs Union are not proceeding very successfully. The Armenian side wants customs duties on imported goods to remain the same.
Armenia initially presented the CU with a list of over 900 types of goods whose import duties it wanted to remain the same after entry into the Customs Union. Later the list was narrowed to 700 goods and now Armenia is negotiating over customs duties of only 400 types of goods.
The paper’s sources say that even if the CU accepts Armenia’s proposal not to change the duties, a kind of customs border will be created between Armenia and the CU and hefty fines will be imposed on goods exported from Armenia to the CU member states to prevent our businessmen from presenting goods from third countries as ones of Armenian origin.
