‘Erebuni’ penal institution to be closed down
The Armenian government took a decision today to stop activities of ‘Erebuni’ penal institution, according to the press office of the government.
The decision is conditioned by the fact that the newly-built ‘Armavir’ penal institution will be put into operation. 500 million and a billion drams was allocated for ‘Armavir’ penal institution’s construction in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
400 inmates can be housed in the new building of ‘Armavir’ that will be ready in May or June of this year.
There were 12 penal institutions in Armenia so far. Information about the possible closure of one of the prisons first appeared in February 2014.
