Festivities planned to mark centenary of poet Hovhannes Shiraz

The centenary of the prominent Armenian poet Hovhannes Shiraz’s birth will be marked on April 27. The Armenian government held today a sitting of the commission on preparations for events to mark the 100th birthday of the poet. The sitting was conducted by Deputy Prime Minister, Acting Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgian.

Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosian presented a program of jubilee events to celebrate the centenary of H. Shiraz. The events will start on April 27 in Gyumri with a soiree in memory of the poet, to be followed by a trip to his house-museum. Other events will be held throughout the year. In particular, it is planned to hold two events in memory of the poet in Gyumri and Yerevan, organize public presentations of Hovhannes Shiraz’s literary heritage, publish a complete set of his works, make a documentary, and hold various literary events and exhibitions dedicated to Shiraz.
