After elevator brawl, Jay Z and Solange Knowles go jewelry shopping
Tuesday afternoon, Jay Z and sister-in-law Solange Knowles appeared to make nice by going jewelry shopping together at Mr. Flawless, a high-end New York jewelry store. TMZ reports they browsed, but didn’t buy anything.
It was likely a deliberate public display of reconciliation (or something resembling reconciliation, anyway) after the release of a video from a Met Gala afterparty at the Standard Hotel showing Solange raining blows with her fists, her purse and even her stilettos at Jay Z while being restrained by Beyoncé’s bodyguard, Julius.
It appears a giant rock, or, in this case, the intimation of a future purchase of said rock, is still the easiest way to publicly signal reconciliation without actually releasing a statement that says, “We made up.” Remember when Kobe Bryant had to admit to cheating on his wife and bought that giant purple diamond ring that cost $4 million?
People are still trying to puzzle out Solange’s motivations for windmilling her brother-in-law. The New York Daily News reports that Jay was irritated that Solange’s friends were trying to use his name to get into the party and he admonished her to stop using his name. The paper also reported that Solange’s ire was piqued when Jay said that he would be attending Rihanna’s afterparty without Beyoncé. According to an unnamed Daily News source, Solange turned to her sister and asked, “Why does your husband need to go to the club right now?” to which Jay replied, “You’re one to talk.”
Beyoncé and Jay Z sat courtside at the Brooklyn Nets playoff game against the Miami Heat Monday night looking especially smiley, but neither that, nor Solange and Jay’s Tuesday afternoon jewelry caper, suggest that everything is okay in Knowles-Carter land. There were widespread reports that Solange had deleted all but one photo of her sister from her Instagram account, but a cursory glance proves this is false. However, Beyoncé posted this message on her Instagram account days after the gala:
My Prayer to God
Lord, I lift up every one of my relationships to You and ask You to bless them. I pray that each one would be glorifying to You. Help me choose my friends wisely so I won’t be led astray. Give me discernment and strength to separate myself from anyone who is not a good influence. I release all my relationships to You and pray that Your will be done in each one of them.
Jay Z and Beyoncé are master media manipulators: Shortly after “BEYONCÉ” was released, the singer and her husband were reportedly spotted buying up $6,000 worth of merchandise at Babeland, a New York sex toy shop that’s a favorite among sex-positive feminists. The act fell right in line with the themes of the album. Their “On the Run” tour will start June 25 in Miami, and they’ve added extra dates in Pasadena, Calif., and San Francisco.
So is it a coincidence that of all the jewelry stores in New York, Jay and Solo chose Mr. Flawless for their first public appearance together since the now-infamous elevator video was released? When there’s a song on “BEYONCÉ” called “***Flawless,” fat chance.
