Polish ambassador asks NA speaker not to erect Mikoyan monument
‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ writes that Polish Ambassador to Armenia Zdzislaw Raczynski met with parliamentary speaker Galust Sahakyan in the National Assembly yesterday. It is rumored that the issue of erecting a monument to Anastas Mikoyan in Yerevan was one of the subjects of discussion.
“The ambassador told Sahakyan that Warsaw hopes the Armenian authorities will take into account the Polish people’s feelings. Mikoyan’s name is linked with mass executions of 22 thousand Polish officers at Katyn in Smolensk region of Russia in 1940. The European Court considered the Katyn massacre a military crime”.
