Mudslide damages Russia-Armenia gas main supplying 90% of gas
The Georgian Military Road connecting the South Caucasus with Russia will be closed for months due to a mudslide on May 17 on Gveleti-Darial (Lower Lars) Highway. Upper Lars checkpoint was also closed, ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ says citing Georgian Ministry of the Interior.
According to the daily, it is the only land route linking Armenian with Russia. It ensures a major part of the commodity turnover between the two countries and the passenger flow via this route also increased in recent years.
The mudslide damaged Russia-Armenia gas main supplying about 90% of natural gas to Armenia. The gas supply will resume much earlier, the paper says.
