Rodnina expresses readiness to promote figure skating in Armenia
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended today the groundbreaking ceremony for a new figure skating school to be built in Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of Yerevan, according to the presidential press service.
Famous figure skater, three-time Olympic champion, ten-time world champion, Russian public and state figure, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina was also present at the ceremony. She directly participated in the school establishment program and expressed readiness to promote the development of figure skating in Armenia after the school is put into operation.
The school construction is funded by Director General of Moscow-based MonArkh Group, businessman of Armenian descent Sergei Hambartsumyan who also attended the ceremony. The project will cost approximately $5 million. Construction work will start in June and is expected to finish in 2015. The school will have a skating rink for 500 spectators and auxiliary facilities.
