G. Kostanyan: All guilty persons should be called to account
Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan said that all guilty persons should be called to account, and unfair court decisions are ruled out.
When asked if there were such cases during the term of office of former Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, Kostanyan replied he can only speak about himself as he believes that he is personally responsible for each case, but he cannot assess his predecessor’s work.
According to Kostanyan, as a result of personnel changes, 80 prosecutors were discharged, including honest and experienced specialists, as well as prosecutors whose activities were incompatible with the new work standards.
“I made four main demands – no bribes, professionalism, diligence, and independence from the political situation. If a prosecutor does not meet these demands, he resigns at his request,” he noted.
G. Kostanyan stressed that the principle “everyone is equal under the law” is the basic one in the work of the Prosecutor’s Office.
