Electricity tariff raised in Armenia, protest underway
The electricity price in Armenia will increase by 5 drams/kWh on August 1 by a decision of Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission, the parliamentary deputy, member of Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Aram Manukyan said. He was present at the commission’s sitting.
According to Manukyan, the sitting was attended by representatives of five parliamentary factions, members of NGOs who made speeches presenting arguments against the upcoming rise in electricity price in Armenia.
“None of the Commission members could present any counterarguments. This body received instructions to raise the tariffs. There was no Commission, there were just buttons that became activated,” Aram Manukyan noted.
A protest is underway outside the Commission’s building.
