Haykakan Zhamanak: Bread prices may go up due to electricity tariff hike
The upcoming 10% rise in electricity tariff on August 1 will affect prices of some goods in Armenia. “Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily attempted yesterday to find out whether the electricity tariff hike will lead to a rise in bread prices.
“Electricity is used to bake bread so the tariff hike will affect bread prices,” an employee of Hesu bakery plant told the paper.
Director of Sevan bread plant Ashot Avetisyan is more optimistic. “The electricity price hike is not great. We will compensate for it from our profit,” he said, adding that prices of their plant’s bread will go up if small enterprises don’t “come out of shadow”.
