SFSS: Early-season fruits are not necessarily dangerous
Early-season fruits are not necessarily dangerous, the head of the phyto-sanitary inspectorate of Armenia’sState Food Safety Service (SFSS) Arthur Nokoyan said at a press conference today. According to him, safety of agricultural products is at the center of their attention.
“Over a year ago the border checkpoint began supervising safety of imported agricultural products – residual levels of nitrates are determined. No violations have been reported so far,” he said.
The inspectorate head spoke about watermelons whose import into Armenia started in February.
“Watermelons have been imported into Armenia from Iran, Georgia and Turkey. There was only a violation related to domestically grown watermelons in which excessive amounts of nitrate were found,” Nikoyan said.
