One killed, 70 injured in Argentina riots
– Argentina authorities said one person was killed while 70 were injured and 120 detained in street riots that followed Sunday’s defeat of the country’s football team by Germany in the World Cup finals.
According to La Segunda newspaper, an 18-year-old teenager died falling off a bus in the province of Virrey del Pino, Buenos Aires. After this incident, a group of local residents attacked a bus station and set eight cars on fire.
In Argentinian capital, about 100,000 people gathered to cheer for their team near the Obelisco, the city’s icon and a national historic monument. Argentina's Security Secretary Sergio Berni said numerous incidents that were planned in advance led to 70 people being injured and 120 detained. Among the injured were 15 policemen. The damage caused to Buenos Aires is estimated at $60,000.
The final match of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil between the national teams of Argentina and Germany ended with a score of 0-1 at the Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janerio.
