Government discusses draft concept of Armenia’s new criminal code
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan conducted today a consultation to discuss the new Criminal Code of Armenia, according to the press office of the government.
Representatives of the responsible departments participated in the consultation, discussing the draft concept of the new Criminal Code with the aim of eliminating inaccuracies and omissions in the current Code. The draft has been prepared by a working group set up by an order of Armenian justice minister in March 2014.
The head of the working group Ara Gabuzyan made a report about the work done and touched upon the problems related to the use of several institutions specified in the code. The participants stressed the need to ensure accuracy of wordings of the Criminal Code norms and to rule out linguistic inaccuracies and incompatibility with other judicial acts.
The new Criminal Code shall reflect criminological reality, ensure efficiency of the fight against modern challenges, and be in line with the current trends in the theory of criminal law and the legislation.
The prime minister gave instructions to discuss the draft concept with interested departments and submit the finalized document along with proposals to him.
