Haykakan Zhamanak: Names of IC deputy heads known
‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily writes in connection with the presidential decree on appointment of Aghvan Hovsapyan as chairman of Armenia’s Investigative Committee (IC): “According to our information, the issue of IC deputy chairmen is now under discussion. The law does not specify how many deputies the IC chairman shall have. It is rumored that the head of the Main Investigative Department of Armenian Police Gagik Hambartsumyan and the head of Defense Ministry’ Investigative Service Armen Harutyunyan will become deputy chairmen of the newly-created IC. These two bodies will form the IC. Rumors persist in ruling circles that Aghvan Hovsepyan will be allowed to appoint one of his deputies at his discretion (naturally, after getting approval of President Sargsyan).
The same sources say that an attempt will be made to organize smoothly the so-called dissolution of the investigative bodies of the police and Defense Ministry, taking into account the fact that numerous criminal cases are being investigated and major personnel changes are unacceptable. Aghvan Hovsepyan promised that the new committee will be an efficient structure. Time will show if he will manage to do it”.
